Adding Mentorship to the Tutoring Portfolio

Welcome back to another weekly update! For those keeping track, this is issue #26! This week I want to talk a bit about the new tutoring business and how it’s been going so far. As you can probably tell by the title, the tutoring plan is getting a boost. I’m adding mentorship to the portfolio.

Tutoring Status Update

As many of you know, I launched a tutoring service about two weeks ago. Overall, I’ve gotten a lot of support, and people seem pretty interested in the idea. In fact, the article I used to introduce that idea has been interacted with in some way by about 50 or so people through the various social networks. That’s definitely a win for me.

Beefing Up My Services With Mentorship

Despite all the support, I have yet to get a single taker. As a result, I’ve been forced to up my game in two main facets:

1. Marketing
2. Services

In terms of marketing, I’ve decided to reach out to school districts in my hometown to see if they can get parents and students interested in the idea. As of today, I have asked for support from every school in my home county. I plan to branch out to same of the adjacent counties in the next couple weeks. I’m hoping that they’ll help me with my marketing. If I’m lucky, maybe I’ll strike a deal to sell a bundle of tutoring plans for their students.

However, marketing to people who haven’t really even decided on a career yet isn’t always easy. As a result, I’ve decided to beef up my services to include mentorship. Now in addition to the core tutoring services, people can also get help with college applications, AP exams, and course scheduling.

One of my buddies from back home tipped me off a new record this week by Knuckle Puck, so I figured I’d give it a share. The song is titled Double Helix, and it’s off their new record Shapeshifter.

I think for now I’m going to be grinding away at schools for awhile. I’d like to be able to get a bit of a following here before February. That way I can be comfortable with my own business. In the meantime, have a good one!
