Let’s Go Penguins (LGP), Search Engine Optimization (SEO), and Three Letter Acronyms (TLA)

Week 7 for The Renegade Coder is up! Updates will be short. I’m pretty busy trying to line things up in my life a little bit, so I haven’t had a ton of time to work on the site other than SEO. But that’s what makes this perfect! I can take things at my own pace.

Also, LET’S GO PENS! 😀 How about that repeat?!

Table of Contents

SEO

I’m always trying to find ways to improve SEO and general site readability. If you’ve poked around the blog’s source code at all, then you’ve probably noticed that my header tags are weird. I was only using h5 and h6 because I always felt like the rest of the tags were too large. That was until recently when I discovered that the tags may play a role in my SEO, so I should generally follow the hierarchy as it’s listed. As a result, I’ve been slowly going through each page and updating them to the proper hierarchy.

That means my titles will always be h1. I don’t get a say in that. My WordPress theme handles that for me. The main headings for the rest of the post will all by h2, and all nested content will follow the hierarchy. I actually think it’s improving readability already. I can quickly scan through the headings and get the information I want even for complex nesting.

Song of the Week

This week I want to give one of my oldest friends a shout out as his band, Mallory Run, is touring. The video below is from a song called Bedrot from their self-titled EP released back in February 2016. Enjoy!

I met McClune, the lead singer, in preschool, so technically he’s my oldest friend. Through the years, our friendship has come and gone, but I still consider him one of my best friends. I hope he’s out there kicking ass!

Coming Soon!

As you can probably tell, I just plan on chugging through the data structures tutorials. Linked lists should be coming out in a day or two. The remainder of the data structures will need some extra time as I’m definitely not an expert, but don’t worry about it!

The Legacy Newsletter (56 Articles)—Series Navigation

For a long time, I used to try to write a custom newsletter every week which eventually became every month. If you’re interested in browsing those old posts just to see how this site came to be, I’ve created a small series for you. Check it out!

Today, the regular newsletter is issued via email which you can access by becoming a member of The Renegade Coder. Alternatively, you can subscribe to the newsletterOpens in a new tab. directly through MailChimp.
