The infamous "name a woman" challenge has expanded into a speed run where you name 100 women. I took the challenge and failed miserably (hence why I'm hiding it behind the paywall). For the lucky few of you who are reading this, congrats! Enjoy my suffering. After all, there are quite a few of those Billy on the Street videos, where he pressures folks to name a woman in public. Challenge Rules Regardless, more recently, QTCinderella launched the name 100 women challenge, which has led to some spectacularly funny videos of men trying to name 100 women as fast as they can. According to the challenge, the rules are as follows: Cannot use chat Can be dead women Can be streamers Can be any version of their name Spelling doesn't count as long as your heart is in the right place No family, friends, ex-girlfriends, or neighbors They must be googleable women/public figures No fictitious characters No repeats Timer starts as soon as you type first letter of first name and ends when you type last letter of last name Must be typed out in a list labeled 1-100 Have to say their name, not a description Now, I'm interested in doing this challenge, but I'm obviously not going to stream it. Therefore, no one is ever going to believe my time. But, that's okay! My plan is to bend the rules a bit to maximize fun. Stop laughing! Breakdown From this list, here are the categories that I believe were represented: Musicians Politicians Political Commentators Authors Streamers Academics Athletes Actors Historical Figures Comedians Chess Players Chefs TikTokers Though, I suppose you could expand or condense this list based on whatever categories come to mind. Regardless, I think this is a pretty diverse list, and I'm happy with how it turned out! Discussion This was way more challenging than I expected. My mind basically was stuck in two places: music and politics. I could not for the life of me think outside these two categories. Even worse, the politics angle was mostly rightwing, since I am apparently brain broken. I thought of several streamers (e.g., Pokimane, Emiru, ExtraEmily, etc.), but I don't know their actual names beyond their channel names. Hell, there are even some VTubers I could have listed (e.g., Bao, IronMouse, etc.), but I don't know their real names. It seems the name restriction made this a lot harder. Also, there were definitely categories of women I explicitly avoided to save face, like sex workers. Likewise, there are a ton of fictional characters that I could list from the countless anime and manga I consume. Lastly, and I'm sure this is just an excuse, but learning 200+ student names a year has completely fried my ability to conjure up names of people. I can picture folks in my head, but the name is not coming out. Free recall is hard! At any rate, let's call this one a day! I spent way longer on this than I thought I would have...
